Mathematics
Head of Maths - Mr P Tagoe
A team of dedicated teachers who work closely together teaches Mathematics. Each member of staff teaches the full age and ability range from 11-16. Three teachers teach up to 'A' level. The Mathematics Faculty is based in a suite of 8 rooms each with an interactive white board and a variety of resources.
Key Stage 3
Year 7 students are grouped in sets for Mathematics based on the KS2 test results and the Cognitive Ability tests they sit as soon as they reach us. The setting follows from year 7 to year 11 throughout the school, but there are plenty of opportunities to move up or down set, as students progress.
Key Stage 4
Year 10 and Year 11 are grouped together into 8 sets according to their ability. This is based on the KS3 result and teacher recommendations. There are two tiers of entry for GCSE, Higher and Foundation. All our students are taught to aim as high as possible and will be entered for the examination that best allowsstudents to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
Key Stage 5
We offer Mathematics at AS and A2 levels and Further Mathematics at AS and A2 levels. In addition to the core Pure units we offer Statistics and either Decision Mathematics or Mechanics. We normally expect a AS/A2 level Mathematics student to have achieved at least grade B at their GCSE.
